Certain maps are only viewable at certain scales.

The Discovery Maps, for instance, can be viewed from a scale of 1:50,000 in to 1:10,000. Beyond that you will get a blank canvass.

Similarly, the Historic 6 inch and the Cassini 6 inch maps are only viewable when zoomed in to 1:10,000 or closer. A generic historical map is presented at smaller scales.

You should also note that some of the layers will only be visible at certain scales. The OPW flood mapping layer, for instance, is not viewable beyond a scale of 1:50,000 so if you are zoomed in beyond this scale, nothing will be displayed on the maps. Similarly, the National Inventory of Archictectural Heritage data is not viewable beyond 1:25,000 scale

Yes, the Irish Grid widget provides grid reference numbers for the Irish National Grid along the top and right-hand side of maps within Scoilnet Maps. It is particularly effective when viewing the Discovery maps, as the Irish National Grid lines are visible on these maps.

To open the Irish Grid widget click on the # icon on the widget bar at the bottom of the map.

The Irish Grid widget displays grid references on the map canvas when you are zoomed in at scales of 1:50,000, 1:25,000, 1:10,000 and 1,5,000.

Yes you can print. You will need to firstly export your chosen map to PDF – by using the widget at the bottom of the maps. This will allow you to save the map as a PDF and you can print this off. You should note, though, that the quality of the printed map will not be as good as the display on the screen.
